In order to protect Koalas, they are currently listed as “vulnerable” under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The State Environmental Planning Policy (Koala Habitat Protection Policy) 2020 and the State Environmental Planning Policy (Koala Habitat Protection Policy) 2021 are both in place to help stop the decline of Koalas by protecting their habitat that is vital for their survival.
